Car drivers and I have a bit of a love-hate relationship. When I’m a pedestrian, I’m a militant one so cars, you better stop at or before the line because if you end up halfway into the intersection resulting in me having to walk all the way around your car, you’re likely going to get serious cut-eye. That being said, if I’m a driver, I’m the person halfway in the middle of the intersection. If you haven’t picked up on it yet, I’m an all-or-nothin’ kind of grrl.

But today, I wear the hat of a pedestrian – an angry one at that. Living downtown and walking to work is an absolute joy 99% of the time. On days when it’s raining however, it seems it’s my destiny to have at least one inconsiderate driver rushing to catch the next red light or trying to make sure the mere 20 metres of free roadway is crossed in the shortest time possible, hits a puddle and nails me with the nastiness that are roadside puddles.

Do you know what hurts the most? They just keep driving. I’m not expecting them to stop and get out of their cars to say sorry (yes I am). I’m not expecting them to offer to compensate me for my pain through an all-paid getaway to Montebello for the weekend (yes I am), but at least a “sorry” wave or a slight tap on the brakes to imply that they’ve just realized that they’ve ruined someone’s day and at least reflexively began to stop to say sorry. But no. No tapping of the brakes, no wave of the hand. Definitely no “sorry” and sadly, no weekend to Montebello.

Argh. Just wait until I get a car!
